1951-S Roosevelt Dime 10C PCGS Rattler MS66 – TONED!
Proof set sales rose only slightly from 1950, as the coin market was still recovering from a slide that began in 1948. The Mint was not yet consistent in producing proof coins with fully brilliant fields, so this year’s mintage of proof dimes includes some that are only semi-brilliant. Cameo examples are very scarce, though more available than in 1950. Ultra Cameo specimens are extremely rare. It would be another 20 years before the U. S. Mint began to intentionally produce proof coins having frosted devices, and this feature was more of a serendipitous accident during the 1950s-60s.
