1953-S Franklin Half Dollar 50C NGC MS66
All San Francisco Mint coins of the 1950s were widely hoarded by the roll at the time of issue, so the modest mintage of this issue has had no impact on its availability in Mint State. Gems are plentiful through MS-66, typically being quite poorly struck from severely worn dies. Both of those strike qualities tend to deflect contact marks or make them difficult to discern. Coins certified as having FBL are rare in all grades, due to the generally poor quality control practiced at the San Francisco Mint in its final years before the suspension of coin production. This issue offers one of the more easily seen repunched mintmark varieties of the Franklin series, FS-501.
