1940-D Mercury Dime 10C NGC MS67FB – Full Bands
The mintage of this issue mirrors the Philadelphia output of the previous year, and 1940(P) dimes are common across all grades through MS 67 FB. Full Bands examples form a minority of the surviving Mint State population, but such coins are far more likely to be submitted for grading. Irrespective of the grade assigned, 1940(P) dimes will vary greatly in technical quality. Large mintages usually resulted from overuse of the dies, and many coins will be lacking crisp details.

According to the NGC Price Guide, as of June 2025, a Mercury Dime from 1940 in circulated condition is worth between $3.50 and $6. However, on the open market, 1940 Dimes in pristine, uncirculated condition sell for as much as $370.
